Hex Fill

A honeycomb field whose cells respond to source tone and color.

Hex covers the selected bounds with hexagonal cells. The source signal controls how strongly each cell appears, creating a geometric mosaic that remains recognizably tied to the artwork.

Controls

  • Thickness controls cell weight and visual mass.
  • Spacing controls hexagon scale and grid density.
  • Angle has limited influence on the fixed honeycomb structure.
  • Organic introduces controlled irregularity into otherwise mechanical cells.

Try Thickness 5, Spacing 14–20, Organic 0 for a clean honeycomb.

Color

Static mode emphasizes a unified hex structure in Illustrator's stored paint. Dynamic Color samples cells from the source and creates a colorful mosaic.

Tips

Use larger Spacing for logos and poster graphics. Use smaller Spacing for photographs with important detail, but remember that cell count rises quickly. Keep Organic low for technical geometry and raise it for a more hand-built or biological surface.
