G2 Continuity
Make curves flow through a node with no sudden change in bend.
A normal smooth node keeps both sides on the same direction. A G2 node also balances how strongly the curve bends on each side, which gives a cleaner, more even result.
Vextra applies G2 between two curves, and at a tangent node between a curve and a line.
Move a Smooth Node to a G2 Position
Option-double-click / Alt-double-click moves the node to its G2 position and leaves it a normal smooth node. This is a one-time correction, and later edits do not maintain it.
Make G2 Stay Active
Shift-Option-double-click / Shift-Alt-double-click marks the node as a live G2 node. An outer outline appears around it, and Vextra recalculates the G2 result after every later edit.
The G2 setting travels with the artwork when you save, reopen, copy, or paste it.
Double-click a G2 node to turn it back into a normal smooth node.
G2 Between a Line and a Curve
At a tangent node between a line and a curve:
- Option-double-click / Alt-double-click applies the G2 result once.
- Shift-Option-double-click / Shift-Alt-double-click keeps G2 live.
- Double-click returns the node to a normal smooth node.
A live G2 tangent shows a rounded triangle outline outside the tangent marker.
Edit G2 Handles
Drag a G2 handle as you would any other. The node holds still during the drag, so it never fights your pointer, and Vextra finds its new G2 position on mouse-up.
Hold Option / Alt to move the handle on its own for that drag.
When G2 No Longer Applies
G2 survives ordinary edits, breaks, joins, copying, and reopening the document.
If an edit reshapes the path so that G2 no longer applies at a node, Vextra drops the G2 setting there and leaves the path as it is.
See the Final Shape
The G2 marker belongs to the path you edit; the balanced curve appears in the processed Vextra result.
Hold backtick to hide the editing overlays and see that result on its own.
Choose Expand Selection to turn selected G2 work into normal nodes, or Expand Contour to turn the whole processed contour into normal geometry.
See Processed Output for more about live Vextra shapes.
