ASCII Fill

Outlined monospaced glyphs selected from a density palette.

ASCII divides the source into a rotated character grid. Each cell chooses a glyph according to local density, from light punctuation to heavy characters. The plug-in outlines a bundled Roboto Mono variable font through CoreText, so the Illustrator result contains vector paths rather than live text.

Controls

  • Thickness controls glyph weight across the variable font range.
  • Spacing controls font size and grid density.
  • Angle rotates the character grid and glyphs.
  • Organic jitters position, scale, and rotation.

Try Thickness 10–20, Spacing 12–18, Angle 0°, Organic 0.

Color

Static mode creates classic terminal-style text art in one Illustrator color. Dynamic Color samples each glyph from its source cell.

Tips

Use larger Spacing when the characters should remain legible. Use smaller Spacing when the overall image matters more than individual glyphs. Keep Angle at 0° for conventional ASCII or rotate the grid for a more graphic texture.

Because glyphs are already outlines, Expand Appearance produces ordinary compound paths rather than editable characters.
