Linear Fill

Classic parallel hatching whose width changes continuously along every line.

Linear is the clearest introduction to Linestra. It lays parallel centerlines across the source and turns them into filled variable-width strips. Dark areas widen the strip; light or transparent areas narrow it or remove it. Width is sampled along the length, so detail is not limited to one fixed width per line.

Controls

  • Thickness sets the maximum visual weight.
  • Spacing sets the distance between parallel lines.
  • Angle rotates the entire hatch field.
  • Organic varies spacing and adds controlled wobble and edge roughness.

A balanced starting point is Thickness 6, Spacing 12, Angle 30°, Organic 0.

Static Color

With Dynamic Color off, the strips use the static color selected in the Linestra controls. Source fill and stroke colors do not become the generated strip color.

Dynamic Color

Dynamic Color samples color along the strips and divides them into smoothly joined color sections. It works especially well with portraits, gradients, and colorful landscapes.

Useful Variations

  • Traditional engraving: Angle 45°, moderate spacing, low Organic.
  • Bold poster: larger Thickness and Spacing.
  • Fine technical texture: low Thickness and low Spacing.
  • Hand-drawn hatch: Organic 20–45.

If the result becomes almost solid, increase Spacing or reduce Thickness.
