Save, duplicate, scale, and transfer live Linestra artwork safely.

Save and Reopen

Linestra stores its schema version, fill mode, six numeric controls, source black and white levels, color mode, stable seed, selected static color, and any custom Circular or Spiral center inside the Live Effect parameters. Saving an Illustrator document preserves these settings.

When reopened on a computer with a compatible Linestra plug-in, Illustrator regenerates the appearance from the source artwork.

Duplicate and Copy/Paste

Duplicating an object preserves the effect. You can then select the duplicate, change its fill or parameters, and create a variation without altering the original.

Copy/paste between Illustrator documents also preserves the effect and its stored static paint. Document color conversion remains Illustrator's responsibility.

Scaling

Linestra exposes scalable parameters to Illustrator. When effects are scaled with the artwork:

  • Thickness scales with the object.
  • Spacing scales with the object.
  • Angle remains the same orientation value.
  • Organic remains the same percentage.
  • Contrast and Brightness remain unchanged.
  • Source Levels remain the same 0–255 black and white points.

If the scaled result looks unexpectedly dense or sparse, check Illustrator's Scale Strokes & Effects behavior and then adjust Spacing.

Multiple Objects

Several selected objects can receive or update Linestra together. Each object receives its own effect. Group the objects first if you want one combined signal and one combined source bound.

Sharing Documents

Another user needs a compatible Vexy Linestra installation to edit or reliably regenerate the Live Effect. For recipients without the plug-in, send an expanded copy while preserving your own live master document.

Archiving

For long-term work, keep:

  • The original linked assets.
  • A live Illustrator master with Linestra effects.
  • An expanded delivery copy when required.
  • The Vexy Linestra version used for final production.
