Preferences Overview

Preferences set how Vexy Lines behaves across all your projects — how it previews artwork, saves files, shows source images, checks for updates, and writes vector output.

Document properties belong to one piece of artwork; preferences are app-wide defaults. A few of them overlap with settings you can also change while you're working in a document.

What you can set

• Export — how strokes get written to vector output, including Normal and Scribble modes.
• Source Opacity — the default transparency of source images in the workspace.
• Colors — the highlight and background colors used while editing.
• Rendering — the trade-off between preview speed and quality.
• Preview Shortcut — how the clean-preview shortcut behaves.
• Existing Files — what happens when you save over a file, plus autosave recovery.
• Autosave — whether view parameters get stored with the document.
• Update — whether Vexy Lines checks for updates on startup.

When to change them

Change a preference when you notice yourself doing the same thing over and over. If you always dim the source image, set its default opacity. If you work with dense artwork, use the rendering preference to keep previews quick.

For anything that should only apply to one piece of artwork, use the document or view properties instead.
