Existing Files

When you save a document over a file that already exists, this setting decides what happens to the old file. Pick one of three options:

  • Rename — keeps the existing file by giving it a modified filename, so nothing is lost. Choosing this enables an extra checkbox, "Save renamed files to subfolder":
    • Checked — the renamed file is moved into a subfolder, keeping the main folder tidy.
    • Unchecked — the renamed file stays alongside the original.
  • Move to Trash — sends the existing file to the system trash. It's gone from the folder but easy to restore later if you change your mind.
  • Overwrite — replaces the existing file outright, with no backup. Use this only when you're sure you won't need the old version.
